Adult contemporary artist Beth Nielsen Chapman offers up her latest album effort ‘Uncovered’, featuring a batch of tracks written by Chapman, but until now never properly recorded by herself. The latest album effort features an enjoyable blend of varying tracks, a few pop-orientated, a few sounding much more Americana for the most part. The album comes across as an enjoyable effort, featuring some great performances by Beth Nielsen Chapman herself, and backed up by some very enjoyable backing performers who really help bring out more in the individual songs.
‘Uncovered’ opens up with Beth Nielsen Chapman simply just going for it, introducing the album with somewhat downplayed instrumentals which support her own vocal style. There’s a slight reserved feel to Chapman’s style, giving the music itself a little bit more depth, as though Chapman is really considering what it is she wants to present. The tracks themselves on the album offer a fairly enjoyable and diverse amount of styles, giving ‘Uncovered’ an interesting edge as it progresses along. It seems Chapman is really pushing to present her tracks in her own style, and show her own visions for them.
Although there’s a few enjoyable elements on ‘Uncovered’, it does feel that there is a distinct average vein running throughout the course of the album. Regrettably, a lot of the efforts on ‘Uncovered’ come across as boring, and in a few instances a little cheesy with the lyrics. At times, ‘Uncovered’ can be enjoyable, but for the most part it just seems to distinctly average for it to ever take off and become its own real thing. Beth Nielsen Chapman can certainly dish out talent when she wants to, which is evident at times, but it seems ‘Uncovered’ is a poor example of this, which comes across as one of her weakest album efforts yet.
It seems Beth Nielsen Chapman might have missed the mark with ‘Uncovered’. For the most part, the songs themselves feel a little too uninspired, as though Chapman has injected enough of herself and enough creativity to help them really take off. Most of the tracks on the album are simply forgettable, with the few good tracks not being enough to make it a worthy album effort. Sure enough, Beth Nielsen Chapman is a capable and talented musician and song-writer, but it seems she has let herself down with ‘Uncovered’.
