Spear-headed by musician Jean-Sébastien Truchy, Avec Le Soleil Sortant De Sa Bouche present their debut album ‘Zubberdust!’. Following on from the groundwork initially laid down during the Fly Pan Am era, Avec Le Soleil present an incredible and electric performance, fusing together elements of Kraut-rock with instrumental-rock to deliver a phenomenal album experience. ‘Zubberdust!’ comes across as an incredibly funky yet hypnotic instrumental rock workout, showcasing some phenomenal creative ideas and concepts presented wonderfully. It’s not simply another Fly Pan Am-esque album, though it is one that would definitely please their fans.
‘Zubberdust!’ seems to occupy its own world, where elements of the psychedelic meet harmoniously with elements of both kraut-rock and post-rock, resulting in an album experience where there’s a familiarity to certain types of experimental music, whilst also coming across as something completely new and different. ‘Zubberdust!’ is almost bombastic to a point, showering its audience with two 20-minute work-outs that challenge its listeners with incredible and hypnotic music that goes around and around over and over again. It’s an incredible album experience that would put a smile on all the faces of those who to this day still miss the years of Fly Pan Am, and their incredible experimental music.
Whilst ‘Zubberdust!’ comes across as a fun and incredibly enjoyable experimental album, many elements used to push along the music come across as rather challenging. The whole album is certainly a crazy and hypnotic workout for the ears and soul, with there being very few resting points within the music itself. This isn’t really an album that can be taken lightly, as there’s an incredible amount going on and at times, it can come across as quite overwhelming. There’s a sense that ‘Zubberdust!’ will only appeal to a somewhat limited audience of either die-hard Fly Pan Am fans or those who enjoy challenging music.
Avec Le Soleil Sortant De Sa Bouche might confound and confuse people with their debut release, though it’s a release one could easily expect and understand from someone like Truchy. ‘Zubberdust!’ is incredibly odd and bizarre in places, but there’s a wonderful indulgent element to the music itself if one allows themselves to just get completely absorbed in all the creative ideas being presented by the band. Even with all the crazy twists and turns ‘Zubberdust!’ presents, the whole album comes across as an incredible, well structured, well composed and very cohesive album experience.
